Queen Lear

May 2018

Queen Lear was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragic play King Lear, set on a dying, polluted Earth. The technical team created an immersive, dystopian world using lighting, sound and video – from industrial hanging florescent FOH lighting and flickering festoon to glowing appliances buried in a sea of rubbish. The lighting was programmed on a ETC EOS with sound & video programmed in QLab. Multiple screens scattered amongst the rubbish displayed various pieces of video content to aide the storytelling. Full stage projection mapping was used at the end of the play to highlight the beauty of nature and provide a glimmer of hope for environmental change.
